13.   Should I Have My Desktop Computer Encrypted?

  • Do you store PHI on the desktop computer?

If the answer is “Yes” to the above question, you should contact your Tier 1 or IT representative and ask to have the desktop computer encrypted.  It is against University policy to store PHI on unencrypted Workstations.  If you do not or cannot have your desktop computer encrypted, other options include storing the PHI in the University’s data center or on an encrypted portable device.
